MFOLIA CONDEMNS SENATE FILES 116, 459, 587
March For Our Lives Iowa condemns the recent advancement of Senate Files 116, 459, and 587 in the Iowa State Senate.
SF 116 and 459 would allow firearms to be brought into previously prohibited locations, such as school drop-off and loading zones, as well as workplace parking lots. The proximity of firearms to the workplace increases the chances of a shooting, and workplace regulations that prohibit firearms in employees cars have proven to be effective in reducing injuries.
SF 587 would allow County Attorneys and Assistant County Attorneys the right to acquire a professional firearm license and carry a firearm with them in prohibited work locations without any training. This bill will place innocent people in danger if untrained employees are bringing firearms to work.
March For Our Lives Iowa is deeply disheartened by the advancements of Senate Files 116, 459, and 587. Since 2007, nearly 2500 Iowans have died due to gun violence, and we urge our senators to put Iowans first.
